Blaine is the most feared and wanted criminal in the GCPS. His crimes are always audacious, large scale, and almost unfailingly embarrassing for the Council, but just as often he is as priceless for the Council's plans as he is dangerous.

Biography

Synopsis

Blaine has worn many guises and his presence has been recorded in several distinct time periods. Rumour has it he even has access to some form of dimension-hopping technology. But, while he currently seems to have made the GCPS his home, his motivation for going into business in that most cutthroat part of the galaxy is unclear.

Blaine was already well known to many of the warlords of corporate space when he began to move into the worlds of Xtreme DreadBall. His time as a sponsor in the underground, illicit sports scene also gained him many new connections with thugs, killers, and thieves. Lately he has made it known, not only through MercNet, that for the right price he will put together a team of the elite and the infamous for any job, anywhere. Thus the Eiras Contract Mercenaries were assembled.

The Mystery

It’s been said that Blaine has a face that only a mother could love, though in his case even that seems doubtful. According to the legends surrounding him, his first crime was to murder his family and burn down the family home. Certainly nobody claims him as kin. That’s just asking for trouble.

Whether this is true or not is anyone’s guess as he has surgically changed his appearance a number of times and the Blaine you see now is as much a result of reconstructive medicine as nature. Even his true race is the subject of some debate.

One of Blaine’s many peculiarities is his DNA: he’s got more than one profile. This isn’t possible naturally, which implies that Blaine has had more than cosmetic surgery done to alter his appearance. Certainly reports of his combat abilities and the arrest report of those who finally captured him on Deskin 4 support the idea that he has some inbuilt enhancements. Those that have seen the security vid of his breakout are even more sure. Unfortunately all the actual witnesses died in the escape and all we have is degraded and partly jammed video files. That was the last confirmed sighting.

He has since been reported in a wide variety of places, fighting alongside any number of different factions. None of these sightings have been reliably corroborated and he always slips away in the confusion of combat, invariably leaving a bloody wake of maimed and dead in his path. He seems to prefer the close kill and the fact that he manages this against even highly sophisticated enemies such as Forge Fathers and Enforcers is a testament to his extraordinary skills of stealth and evasion.

The Mandrake Rebellion

Over a century and a half ago, the Council of Seven took total control of the Galactic Co-Prosperity Sphere. Leading to that, the then known group of seven had long used agents from other races as go betweens, and the choice to go with the individual known only as ‘Blaine’ worked perfectly. The story goes that during the board meeting of Romasko Holdings, when only the department heads were allowed in the room, the doors opened and in walked Blaine. The building’s communications suddenly did not work, and the alarms which should have activated the moment a non-employee walked into the room did not trigger. Despite Romasko’s heads fearing an assassination attempt, Blaine gave them a business proposal - that Romasko would, in the near future, act as an ambassador of the GCPS to an as-yet-unencountered alien civilisation, that when this race chose to make itself known to humanity Romasko would act as a broker, advocating cooperation and trade. In return Romasko would receive an almost unlimited supply of funds to do with as it pleased. Thus started the Mandrake Rebellion.

The engine Romasko used to power its expansion was the Orc battalions; tens of thousands of battle-hardened Orc Commandoes who had become accustomed to the regular and easy payments from the reserves Romasko were receiving from their unknown benefactor. Payments which stopped with no warning. Blaine, who until that moment had been Romasko’s only point of contact with the unknown alien race funding them, disappeared, and Romasko found itself holding the leash of a soon to be angry, and very dangerous animal. The group of seven sat back and waited for the inevitable repercussion.

The Eiras Contract

When the criminal overlord known as Blaine was approached by a shadowy corporation to retrieve technical information, purloined by a rival, the megacredits were too good to turn down. The team he sent to the Delta Comlex on Eiras nearly paid for that mistake with their lives. Instead of recovering stolen goods, the team uncovered a plot to use something called Vector-P - a bioagent of unknown source - to control beings infected with a mutating plague. What's more, their employer turned out to be none other than Monarch - an agent of the Council of Seven.

Blaine's team fought and destroyed Dr. Lukas Koyner, the mad mastermind of the Delta Complex, and Monarch herself when she turned on them. Afterwards the team had returned to Blaine's ship, the Dictator, to decide what to do with the sample of Vector-P they took from Monarch. Unbeknownst to them though, they were not the only parties interested in the strange bioagent. Even as the team met to discuss the fallout from Eiras, a sinister alien ship approached, undetected. The Dictator suffered heavy damage from a Nameless boarding party led by The Fear, but Blaine and his mercs were eventually able to kill and capture the attackers and even to sell the Nameless specimen - for an appropriate price.

The Tersia Revolution

The most wanted criminal in the galaxy has returned, this time as a warmongering Leader of the Revolution!

He has many well known mercenaries like the Eiras Contract or Tersia Revolutionaries on his pay roll and his personal entourage with him once he is ready to bring Tersia Prime to it's knees!

Dreadball Xtreme

“ You don’t get asked to play for him – you get summoned…”

Blaine's reputation ensures that he is highly sought after on the DBX circuit, and that no player turns down the opportunity to play for him if offered. His teams tend to be eclectic, mixing different species and player types dependent on his mood at the time. Currently he seems to favour Kalyshi mercenaries, though quite why this is, nobody has been brave enough to ask.
