Dr. Lukas Koyner was the senior scientist for Mazon Labs on Eiras

Biography

Short bio from the official Mazon Labs website: Dr Koyner brought his wealth of experience from Praexus and Pfener Hoit to Mazon Labs, taking the project lead on a number of key peer-reviewed studies relating to both neurology and anaesthetics. He later began working behind-the-scenes on cutting-edge and fast-paced projects, before moving on to a static, peaceful and quiet future. He, and his work, are dearly remembered to this day.

Lucas Koyner’s career reads like a dream resume or an extensive horror story, depending on your attitudes to the rights of sentient beings to avoid repeated thermal probes and the stress testing of their internal organs. Pain is Koyner’s primary area of interest, both its causation and its avoidance.

It was at Romunde Interplanetary University that Koyner earned the nickname, ‘the Sandman’, due to his fascination with anaesthetics and their potential. His graduate thesis on the comparative breaking points of the major and minor bones of thirteen species, with and without the use of painkillers, earned him a Starr-Schmidt award and attracted the attention of members of the Council of Seven.

After a successful career, working for biotech companies including Praexus and Pfener Hoit, Koyner disappeared from the public science sector and was rumoured to have died from an overdose of his own experimental anaesthetic gases. In fact, Koyner had moved up in the galaxy, taking a position as the head of research at one of the corporation’s most clandestine advanced science facilities. Within its warren of laboratories, Koyner has been able to indulge his other great interest - molecular recombination and the use of alien mutagens as a weapon.

Working on something called 'Vector-P' in the labs on the lowest level of the Delta Complex on Eiras. he was finally taken down by the Eiras Contract Mercenaries. One of their members remembers his final moments amidst sheets of handdrawn notes, anatomical charts of numerous species, and diagrams of chemical compositions and apparatus as follows:

"Koyner screeched as his body is riddled with blasts of energy from our weapons. The sound was almost piteous, until we remembered the horrors the man perpetrated down here. The galaxy is surely a better place without a monster like Koyner in it."

Somehow, Koyner returned. Reports say that he has been seen not only taking notes, but fighting at the front of a small strike team composed of a few Mazon Security Guards and Plague Specimen. For those with enough clearance, it is known as the Vector-P Experimental Division. Enforcer ES345, Codename 'Monarch' reportedly had this to say about Koyner and the Vector-P sample:

“Koyner was a brilliant scientist, but he was greedy too. Crazy, really. The Council could have given him anything. But he was still going to sell this to - our competition. For that, well, he had to die.”
