Commander Graves was the Guard Commander for Mazon Labs' Delta Complex on Eiras and is now the Head of Containment for the Vector-P Experimental Division

Biography

Short bio from the official Mazon Labs website: A veteran of the GCPS marines, Commander Graves brought peace and security to many Mazon facilities. He was praised by colleagues for his objectivity and vision, before taking a surprise retirement.

Years of fighting in wars across the GCPS taught Wilson Graves two things - how to lead men and women in combat, and that a wise man doesn’t ask too many questions. These traits have made him a capable and respected officer for the Mazon Labs security personnel on Eiras.

Graves did not query the undocumented biological samples he was occasionally required to allow through his screening procedures unchecked. Nor did he allow the screams that sometimes echoed up the vent shafts from the lower levels to bother him or his staff as they went about their duties. Whatever the labcoats down there were up to, whatever it was they did with the stasis chambers delivered to them from Perestia, well, that’s their business.

The guards got paid, that’s theirs. But, while he worked this job as professionally as he could, in truth, Graves longed for the more savage days of his youth. The roar of battle and the camaraderie of armed struggle against a strong enemy. An honest fight and a violent victory. As a newly-minted marine he earned the nickname ‘the Butcher’ for his knife-work during the battle of Blood River and he was a pretty good shot with a pistol too.

But back in the days on Eiras his knife only came out to be oiled and sharpened every night and his gun sat in its holster, cold and unused. Secretly, Graves relished the prospect of one day, someone being foolish enough to actually try to get past him and his troops.

Until the Eiras Contract Mercenaries did. One of the mercs remembers what should have been the final moments of 'The Butcher':

"Graves dropped to his knees, his armour shattered and blood dripping from his wounds. His eyes fixed on mine. The veteran guard commander had been beaten and he knew it. For a moment his expression was one of pure hatred. Then he was gone, his face and body falling lifelessly. But though Graves’s time on Eiras seemed over, he was still of use - to us. I unclipped the wrist unit from his arm and activated its screen. Patrol schedules, access codes - but we had no time to waste and moved further into the complex, leaving Graves behind."

Dr. Lukas Koyner, the chief scientist in charge, retrieved the dying Guard Commander Graves and was able to stabilize him. Shortly afterwards the mercs made their way to Koyner's Lair while Graves had to watch the scientist's demise through a security cam. Due to Graves' wounds, he couldn't save the Dr. and the mercs escaped with the Vector-P sample, the incredibly valuable foundation of the experimentation in Delta Complex.

Graves got a new assignment as 'Head of Containment' in the Vector-P Experimental Division after a seemingly miraculous recovery. If someone could pull that off, it was Mazon Labs. What was really baffling is how Koyner must have survived. Graves had heard the scientists' screeches as his body was riddled with blasts of energy from the mercs' weapons!

Suspicions of new cloning tech are abound, but Commander Graves has to focus on his new task: testing specimen injected with Vector-P, containing them when necessary, and supervise the field tests - while not letting Koyner out of his sight. The last assignment is a more personal one. Either it's because Graves doesn't want to "die" alone again, or because he has his own agenda and theories about the "unharmed" Koyner...

A Grave Situation

Another night at the Maz-XT034 facility was passing unremarkably when the scheduled hourly scan resulted in a warning alert. Sgt. Tarska looked up from the screen worriedly, “Commander Graves, we’ve got a scan result reporting an unknown signature in the facility.” “What room?” asked Graves, as he stood and unclipped the safety on his pistol. “Unconfirmed at this stage sir. It was a high-level scan. Running a deeper scan now.” THUMP! THUMP! The large containment door behind their security station juddered with the impact from whatever was on the other side and a loud scraping noise could now be heard. Graves spun and aimed his pistol at the door. “Tarska, Vossen, grab your guns! We’ve got a loose one tonight,” he growled, and stepped towards the containment door...

An alert flashed up on the display of Grave’s bionic arm: “Containment Door override successful. Door lock released”. “Damn! This wasn’t a malfunction – we’ve been hacked,” shouted Graves. The situation had just gotten considerably worse – a malfunction with one or two plague victims released could be dealt with by Graves' team internally. But a hack meant someone else was in the facility and could release everything in the containment rooms given enough time. That meant higher priority alerts going up to Mazon Senior Command. The hunt was on! Graves had to locate the saboteur who was pulling the strings before things got a whole lot worse.

When the fourth Containment Room had opened and the team was dispatching the plague victims inside, yellow warning lights either side of the central containment door began flashing and a loud alarm sounded. The safety measures had been hacked and the monster beyond that door could be released at any stage. Graves needed to find whoever had accessed the facility and quickly! Over the noises of everything else going on, the team suddenly heard a distinct sound from back at the main entrance. A breaching charge exploded and the entrance door crashed to the floor. Shuffling feet and military commands could be heard being issued from just beyond. Mazon Senior Command had been alerted to what’s going on and had sent a containment team. They would have cleared the facility and asked questions later. Commander Graves, Guard Sergeant Tarska and Guard Officer Vossen were now sandwiched between two sides that both wanted them dead!

After fighting off not only plague victims and loosing Vossen to them, but evading the rampage of the Aberration Specimen and the wrath of the Urbana Marines, Graves and Tarska finally spotted the body shape slinking in a corner of the room with small form devices connected directly into an electrical duct. They had located the saboteur – time to finally clean this mess up! After a fierce but short fight, 'The Butcher' stood over the bleeding body of the Rebs scum, stamped hard on the device connected to the wall and ripped the cabling free. All alarms and flashing lights immediately ceased their warning state.

The Rebs Saboteur killed, the Marines and Rangers stood-down after some negotiation and Graves and the team both worked together to clean-up what remained of any plague entities loose in the facility. This had been a complete shitstorm of a night and it was not going to look great on Graves' C.V with the wider Mazon Labs Corporation. He had to make sure it was Sergeant Tarska's fault...
