The Trontek Corporation was formed during the Second Sphere expansion

About

The First Sphere ‘Core Worlds’ are home to the oldest and most powerful families in the galaxy - the people pulling the strings of mega-corporations like Trontek, Accutek, and Mi-Gan.

Trontek have cornered the market in mass-produced transport for Corporation armed forces, as demonstrated by their pervasive Mule multipurpose transport vehicle and the TAD series of support aircraft. Trontek’s designs provide what CFOs across the GCPS demand – cheap, easily produced military vehicles with above-average reliability. Part of the reason the designs have been so successful is the modular nature of their chassis and electronics. With the Mule in particular, it is possible to salvage parts from one vehicle and fix another even with limited training and under battlefield conditions.

When air deployment is needed, Trontek supplies the TAD-65 Hornet dropship. The Hornet is the cornerstone of a corporation army, ferrying supplies or soldiers as needed. It even shares many components with the Mule, keeping costs down and appealing to financial officers and mechanics alike.

An increasingly popular variant of the Hornet is the TAD-67. More commonly known as the Horntail, the ‘67 is the result of the need for more punch on the battlefield - dropping the troop compartment and the more manoeuvrable engine correctors of the Hornet in favour of weapon pods and better targeting systems. The Horntail keeps the TAD series’ signature modular build however, and weapon pods can be modified for either air-to-air or air-to-surface operations with no adjustment to the superstructure. However, Horntail pilots have voiced a preference for additional ablative armour to be bolted on to the forward nose section of the craft, to better withstand the ground fire they have to fly directly into. Some pilots have adapted this further, working them into protective plate pipes which, when air is forced through them at speed, create a distinctive and jarring siren sound which can be clearly heard above the battlefield din.
