Biography
Charging headlong into the enemy without fear, and he expects no less commitment from the assault squads he leads. Such is the inspirational nature of the man, he is seldom disappointed.
Occasionally, the strict regimen of tactical indoctrination and intensive psychological conditioning undergone by all Enforcers does not have the intended effect. Most candidates who do not perform as planned are quietly disposed of. Some exceed the parameters in ways that could not be predicted, and go on to great things. Sergeant Howlett is one such individual.
The role of an Enforcer Sergeant is one that carries a great deal of responsibility, involving as it does command of several of the most valuable assets available to the Council. As a rule, the candidates for selection as Sergeants are therefore drawn from the standard tactical units of the Enforcer Corps, the logic being that these units see the greatest variety of combat situations, making for wellrounded candidates for command. It is further generally assumed that Sergeants – if they live – will ascend to higher command ranks over time.
Sergeant Howlett does not fit any of these criteria. Despite receiving the same training and enhancements as any other Enforcer candidate, it was evident from the beginning that Howlett would only ever excel in an assault role. Though an average shot at best with pistol or rifle, he is preternaturally talented with any form of close combat weapon, and has shown an uncanny ability to use any object to hand when no actual weapon is readily available. Indeed, it is an established legend at the academy that he passed out of advanced CQC training after a final test in which, surrounded by eight ‘enemy combatants’, he neutralised them in under a minute using a discarded ammo clip.
Once in the field, Howlett’s leadership potential quickly became apparent. His ability to inspire not only his fellow squad members, but also any other comrades in visual range was second to none, and his talent for knowing exactly where an enemy line would be weakest and most susceptible to assault was invaluable. When he was offered promotion to Squad Sergeant by the Captain of his battlegroup, scuttlebutt has it that he only calmed down and accepted when he was repeatedly assured that he would not be taken away from the front lines, and he would be staying firmly in the assault units. Since assuming his mantle, his reputation has only grown, and his tally of victories extended.
He leads by example, charging headlong into the enemy without fear, and he expects no less commitment from those he leads. Such is the inspirational nature of the man, he is seldom disappointed. Those who do disappoint can look forward to a swift transfer, assuming that they live through the battle itself.
On Nexus Psi, Howlett’s natural abilities have been deemed necessary to take on not only the Plague, but also to deal with any other alien or rebellious factions that may have been present. Howlett is fanatically loyal to the Council, and nothing gets his temper flaring more than even the mere hint of rebellion. Any Reb factions present on any planet would do well to avoid him.
